A Kentucky native, Dr. Briscoe grew up in a small town in Southeast Kentucky. He graduated with honors from Centre College in Danville, KY. He attended four years of medical school followed by an additional four years of specialty training in psychiatry with the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry, a highly respected psychiatric training program. During residency, Dr. Briscoe was elected to serve as the President of the Resident’s Association and received a number of awards, including awards from Community Mental Health Agencies, awards for research, and the Ruby & John Schwab Award for Academic Excellence.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Briscoe has been involved in research, published a number of scholarly articles, and presented for international conferences. He has served on the full-time teaching faculty for the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry and continues to teach residents and medical students through a gratis faculty appointment. He is a recipient of the 2015 Nancy CA Roeske Excellence in Medical Student Education by the American Psychiatric Association.
Dr. Briscoe serves as Chairman of the national Psychiatry Section of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, sits on the Leadership Council for the local CMDA chapter, and as is actively involved in local and national efforts to assist pastors and churches in their efforts to care for persons who struggle with mental health issues.
