ADHD in High Functioning Adults

ADHD in High Functioning Adults

One common fallacy about ADHD is that high functioning adults can’t possibly have ADHD.

adhd-in-adult Many people assume that adults with ADHD are incapable of handling and making it through professional training programs and other rigorous educational systems. However, this is not always the case.

Over the years, I have treated and I have been treating a number of high functioning adults with ADHD in my practice, some of whom are doctors, attorneys, and/or high-level executives.

Individuals with ADHD are not ‘stupid’. They only tend to have difficulty maintaining attention and focus, or struggle with certain organizational tasks. Truth be told, some adults with ADHD possess significant strengths. In fact, many adults with ADHD are actually highly intelligent.

But they might still find it hard to cope with ADHD and struggle in a number of ways at some point, especially when they get themselves involved in challenging work situations.
